Hey fellow nomads, backpackers, hippies and all the rest of you! If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for an affordable and exciting adventure. And let me tell you, Morocco has got it all! From vibrant souks to stunning desert landscapes, this incredible country has something for every kind of traveler. And the best part? You can experience it all on a super tight budget!
Getting There
My journey began with a quick flight from Portugal to Marrakech, which cost 14 usd using kiwi.com, you can also take a short boat ride there though I’m not sure how much that costs as I haven’t personally done that.
Accommodation
Once I arrived in Marrakech, I headed straight to the medina (old city) and found a cozy hostel for a whopping $5 per night! That’s right, folks, you can find clean, comfortable, and social accommodation for the price of a latte. I stayed in a few different hostels throughout my trip, and they were all around the same price.
Food
Moroccan cuisine is a fusion of delicious flavors and spices, and you can find amazing meals for pennies on the dollar. I lived off of tagines (slow-cooked stews), couscous, and fresh fruit for under $3 per meal. And don’t even get me started on the mint tea – it’s like a warm hug in a cup!
Transportation
Getting around Morocco is a breeze, and it won’t break the bank. I used local buses and trains to get from city to city, and they were all under $10. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even take a grand taxi (a shared ride with other travelers) for a few bucks.
Activities
From hiking in the Atlas Mountains to exploring the bustling souks, there’s no shortage of free or low-cost activities in Morocco. I visited the famous Jardin Majorelle for under $10, and it was one of the highlights of my trip.
